Mrs. Moon, SLP
First day of school (+sharpened pencils!)
I love a good communicator! When I was younger, my parents told me my that my communication disorder was that I communicated TOO MUCH! So... naturally I felt the need to hone the skills and take them to a new level! I attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO, to receive my B.A. in Communication Disorders, and remained there for my graduate degree. I received my M.A. in Communication Disorders in 2007.
My clinical assignment in the hospital setting allowed me to become employed at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL as I began my career as an SLP. I then went to Easter Seals/UCP and obtained my Early Intervention (EI) Credentialing. I am a certified CCC-SLP through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and am licensed to practice speech-language pathology in Illinois. I have experience with the life spectrum, treating young children, as well as the end of life.
In 2009, I began working in the school setting. I have a Type 73 Certification to be able to teach in the public school setting. I am a member of ASHA, the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA), and the Peoria Area Speech-Language-Hearing Association (PASHA). I have been the Program Chair for the annual ISHA Convention twice, and currently serve as the representative to our local chapter on behalf of the state association.
My role as a school-based SLP allows me to collaborate with educators to meet needs within the classroom. Effective communication through speaking, writing, reading, and other venues is always at the front of my mind. My goal with any child who is referred for services is to help them receive the skills necessary to become effective communicators, with the end result being back in the classrooms. I want every child to acquire and develop individualized abilities that once began as disabilities or delays.
